According to the three stylists and fashion experts we consulted, heels are remaining low and toes have ample space — and we couldn’t be more pleased.
"The key theme for this summer’s shoe trends is cool comfort," says Allison Berlin, stylist and founder of Style Made Simple. "This is most evident with the significant comeback of flats, kitten heels, and comfort-focused sandals that still maintain their style. Notice that stilettos are absent from everyone's list."
Ahead, we explore the top styles to shop from these trends and more as the stylists reveal their favorites.
Since comfort is the priority this summer, it means embracing chunky sandal styles that are perfect for all-day wear. "Seek out lug soles (or platforms), fisherman details, and even classic Birkenstock slides," Berlin suggests.
"The flats of the summer are all about unexpected fabrications that make this classic staple in demand," says Berlin. "Achieve this look by opting for styles made of mesh, crochet, and laser-cut materials."
"Kitten heels were brought back by the Y2K movement that has been trending across the fashion industry," Berlin explains. "Worn with everything from pants to skirts and dresses, this is the perfect shoe for transitioning from day to evening during the summer."
Mary Jane shoes have evolved and are now one of the top shoe trends of the year. Stylist Jordanna Sharp recommends pairing them with shorts, skirts, and flowy summer dresses. "If your style is typically more feminine, they are a great way to add an edgier, cool girl vibe to your outfit," Sharp notes.
Thong sandals are no longer just for walking to the pool. Now, flip-flops are being elevated with kitten heels, platform soles, and luxurious materials, allowing you to wear them out without feeling too casual. According to Sharp, the simple silhouette "feels timeless and easy to style with almost anything."
"Silver is so fresh and fun for summer," says fashion and jewelry designer Carla Rockmore. The metallic shine adds a dressed-up feel to various silhouettes this season, from cute sandals to practical flats.
