"Ancient Mummies Found in Iran: Exceptionally Well-Preserved"

Ancient mummies discovered in Iran have been found in exceptionally well-preserved condition. These remarkably intact relics provide a rare and valuable glimpse into ancient civilizations, showcasing their advanced preservation techniques and offering significant insights into historical life and culture. This discovery marks an important archaeological find, shedding new light on ancient practices and traditions.

The first Saltman, characterized by a long white beard, a single gold earring, and a collection of iron knives, was accidentally discovered by miners in 1993.

An ancient salt mine in Iran has revealed a chilling discovery: exceptionally well-preserved mummies of miners who perished thousands of years ago. Known as the "Saltmen," these bodies were naturally mummified in the Chehrabad salt mine near Manzelou, northwest Iran. The remains span various periods, with the oldest dating to 9550 BCE.

The first Saltman, found by miners in 1993, featured a long white beard, a single gold earring, iron knives, and traces of woolen trousers, suggesting he died around 300 CE. His remains were discovered in a 148-foot tunnel.

Subsequent finds included another corpse in 2004, and two more, including a 16-year-old boy, in 2005. By 2010, six bodies had been uncovered. Remarkably preserved by the salt and lack of oxygen, these mummies revealed evidence of mining collapses as the likely cause of death. The 16-year-old was found with his hands raised, indicating a sudden threat.

The fifth Saltman, being exceptionally well-preserved, allowed scientists to find tapeworm eggs in his organs, marking the earliest evidence of ancient intestinal parasites in Iran, as noted in a 2012 study. Along with the six complete bodies, detached parts suggest there may be eight or more Saltmen, all likely victims of mining accidents or collapses. The full extent of the findings and exact cause of death remain unknown.
