Angelique Angarni-Filopon Makes History as Oldest Miss France at 34

Angelique Angarni-Filopon, 34, has made history as the oldest Miss France winner, a feat made possible by a recent rule change that allowed women over the age of 24 to compete. The updated guidelines also opened the competition to married women and mothers, breaking long-standing restrictions in the pageant's history.

Angarni-Filopon’s victory represents a significant shift toward inclusivity, challenging traditional beauty pageant norms and earning widespread praise for redefining the standards of eligibility and representation in the competition.

Angelique Angarni-Filopon, a 34-year-old flight attendant from the French Caribbean island of Martinique, made history on Saturday as the oldest winner of the Miss France pageant. Her victory was made possible by a rule change allowing women over 24, as well as married women and mothers, to compete.

Reflecting on her journey, Angarni-Filopon said, "In 2011, a young woman aged 20 finished first runner-up in the Miss Martinique competition. Today, it's the same young woman aged 34 who stands before you to again represent Martinique, its diaspora, as well as all the women who were once told that it was too late."

The final, broadcast on TF1, featured 30 contestants, including doctors and dentists, who showcased their talents and elegance in swimsuits, regional costumes, and ballgowns. The contestants performed to a range of music genres, from country and salsa to 90s hits and Mozart.

Angarni-Filopon’s win comes with a year-long salary from the Miss France organization, access to a Paris apartment, and numerous gifts from sponsors.

Her historic victory aligns with broader shifts in pageantry. Just days earlier, the Miss Netherlands pageant was scrapped after 35 years. Organizers cited a desire to "change with the times," announcing plans to create a platform celebrating the stories of women who challenge unrealistic beauty standards.

Angarni-Filopon’s win has been celebrated as a landmark moment for inclusivity, redefining what it means to represent beauty and confidence on a national stage.
