A striking, lavishly specified valediction to Bentley’s remarkable 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in Continental GT, GTC and Flying Spur

Bentley is set to unveil its new Ultra Performance Hybrid electrocharged powertrain, accompanied by a special tribute to the potent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with an exclusive edition. Named 'Edition 8', this limited release of the Continental GT, Continental GTC, and Flying Spur is tailored specifically for North American markets, offering a selection of highly desired Mulliner Personal Commissioning options.

The Edition 8 models boast several noteworthy features, including Blackline specification exterior brightware, eye-catching 22” wheels available in 5 spoke or 10 spoke designs, Comfort Specification seats, Bentley’s renowned Rotating Display, and contrast stitching. Customers can select from over 60 colors in Mulliner’s Extended Paint range. Additionally, Palm Fluting, a unique seating style, is offered as a Mulliner Personal Commissioning option, previously unavailable on any mainstream Bentley production model.

Additional thoughtful details encompass self-leveling wheel badges, LED welcome lamps, and the meticulously crafted 'jewel' filler cap, initially inspired by a customer's bespoke request.

Distinctive Edition 8 badging adorns the fender of the Continental GT and Continental GTC, while on the Flying Spur, it is situated on the D Pillar. Inside, the Edition 8 motif is featured as an embroidered emblem on the seat backs and engraved on the treadplates.

In the North American market, customers have the opportunity to acquire one of the final, luxuriously appointed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 models, benefiting from the exclusivity granted by the Edition 8 badging. First deliveries are expected imminently, allowing enthusiasts to experience this exceptional offering firsthand.

Today’s V8 engine

Bentley is phasing out its current-generation 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the Continental GT, Continental GTC, and Flying Spur models, starting with the UK, Europe, and MEAI regions, followed by other areas including North America. While this engine will continue in the Bentayga family, the move aligns with Bentley's Beyond100 strategy, transitioning all model lines to offer a hybrid variant by 2024. This transition has already commenced with the successful introduction of the Bentayga and Flying Spur Hybrid models, surpassing the company's initial demand projections.

For 75 years, the V8 internal combustion engine has been a cornerstone of many Bentley models. The legacy began with the introduction of the L-Series V8 engine in the S2 in 1959, generating 180 bhp. Today's current-generation V8 boasts three times the power with two-thirds of the capacity.

Since its debut in 2012, the 4.0-liter V8 has powered over 53,000 Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur models, each meticulously crafted by hand at Bentley's Dream Factory in Crewe, England.
