China's new bullet train hits 450 km/h, setting a global speed record

China's advanced bullet train prototype achieves a remarkable speed of 450 km/h, setting a new global record and highlighting the nation's leadership in rail technology.

The newly introduced CR450 bullet train is substantially faster than the CR400 Fuxing high-speed rail (HSR), which currently operates at a maximum speed of 350 km/h.

On Sunday, China revealed a prototype of its latest high-speed bullet train, with its manufacturer asserting it reached a record-breaking speed of 450 km/h during test runs.

Developed by China State Railway Group Co (China Railway), the CR450 has surpassed the CR400 Fuxing in performance, earning it the title of the world's fastest high-speed train, as reported by official media and the PTI news agency.

During trials, the CR450 demonstrated exceptional capabilities, including enhanced operational speed, improved energy efficiency, reduced interior noise, and shorter braking distances, setting new global standards. This innovative train aims to transform domestic travel by cutting travel times and improving connectivity nationwide.

According to state-run Xinhua, the CR450's speed outpaces the CR400 Fuxing's 350 km/h limit by a significant margin.

China's high-speed rail network, spanning over 46,000 kilometers, is expected to further benefit from the CR450's introduction, which will enhance transportation efficiency between major urban centers.

While the high-speed rail system has yet to achieve national profitability, it has significantly contributed to China's economic growth, industrial expansion, and regional integration. The Beijing-Shanghai train service, in particular, stands out as the most financially successful route, while others continue to strive for profitability.

China Railway plans to conduct a series of tests on the CR450 prototypes and refine its technical parameters to ensure the trains are ready for commercial use soon.

According to Xinhua, the CR450 prototypes consist of two models, the CR450AF and the CR450BF, each with an eight-car configuration, comprising four powered and four unpowered carriages.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art multi-level emergency braking system and over 4,000 sensors, the CR450 monitors critical systems in real time, including the train body, pantograph, control systems, and fire detection systems.
