Shanghai's New Year's Eve celebration featured an incredible drone display that surpassed the UAE's record-breaking fireworks. The performance, which captivated millions of viewers, showcased over 500 drones flying in synchronized patterns, highlighting cultural symbols and Chinese text. This stunning visual spectacle marked a significant milestone in China's technological and artistic achievements, offering a unique and modern way to celebrate the new year.
As the world ushered in the New Year, both China and the UAE presented remarkable fireworks displays. While China’s show was grand, the UAE once again stood out with a spectacular drone performance and continuous fireworks. In Shanghai, at the Baoshan International Cruise Port, the crowd was captivated by images of cultural symbols and Chinese text lighting up the sky.
A large number of drones flew gracefully, lingering in the air, and even seemed to move while illuminated. The abundance of drones created layers in the display, adding dimension to the experience. This 3D spectacle brought the myths in the sky to life, enhancing their realism.
The show was complemented by vibrant fireworks, with the open space at the port allowing for simultaneous multiple bursts of color. As the drones lit up the night, the performance celebrated both the departing year and the arrival of the new one. Viewers around the globe shared their amazement on YouTube.
One commented, “Leave it to the Chinese! Spectacular, original, and dynamic! No one comes close, even New York!” An Australian praised it as “the most artistic, aesthetic firework show... Congratulations Shanghai.” Another observer was amazed at the coordination of so many drones. In less than a day, the full Shanghai display had already garnered over 500,000 views.
The UAE’s "Our Story in the Sky" New Year’s Eve program showcased cultural symbols narrating the country’s history. Over 100,000 spectators gathered to witness the show, with fireworks from over 60 locations across all Emirates, along with more than 10,000 drones and multiple world records.
The performances spanned iconic sites, including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Ras Al Khaimah set two Guinness World Records for the largest aerial tree and seashell made from drones, staging a heritage-themed display combining fireworks and 3D drone artistry along a 5km stretch of waterfront.
Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism, highlighted the innovative spirit and cultural pride that earned the records.
