On September 16, Los Angeles (Reuters) – The Emmy Awards telecast, broadcast on ABC, drew an estimated 6.9 million viewers, marking the highest viewership for the show in three years, according to data released by the network. This year’s Emmys saw a notable increase in audience numbers, up by 54% from the previous ceremony, which had set a record low viewership of approximately 4.3 million due to a scheduling shift caused by Hollywood labor strikes.

The 2023 Emmys were hosted by the father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, known for their acclaimed show “Schitt's Creek.” The evening's big winners included the FX series “Shogun,” which took home the award for Best Drama, and HBO’s “Hacks,” which surprised many by winning Best Comedy over the heavily favored “The Bear.”

This rise in viewership is particularly significant given the ongoing trend of declining ratings for traditional television and award shows. With audiences increasingly turning to streaming platforms and social media for their entertainment, the boost in numbers highlights a rare success for conventional TV events in an evolving media landscape.
