Meta is currently experimenting with its generative AI chatbot called "Meta AI" on Instagram. This feature enables users to compose poetry, generate images, and perform other tasks based on a single text prompt. The goal of this AI-powered experience is to enrich conversational interactions across Meta's various social media platforms.
Meta, under the leadership of Mark Zuckerberg, is currently trialing its generative AI chatbot, known as 'Meta AI,' on Instagram. This chatbot, akin to others available, can compose poetry, create images, and respond to inquiries based on a single text input. It's worth mentioning that Meta had previously initiated trials for its AI chatbot among select users in India and other regions.
In a statement provided to Engadget, Meta confirmed the ongoing development of its generative AI-powered experiences, stating, "Our generative AI-powered experiences are currently in development across different stages, and we are conducting public tests of various features in a limited capacity."
Initially highlighted by a TechCrunch report, Meta's AI chatbot testing was observed within the main search bar, although subsequent reports indicate its appearance within the Instagram DM search bar. According to Engadget, users could engage with the chatbot directly from their DM by clicking on the Meta AI icon, presenting an experience akin to conversing with a friend.
Interestingly, some users have shared on social media that the Meta AI chatbot can assist them in navigating reels related to a specific topic. This suggests that users may no longer need to depend solely on Instagram search for discovering content.
Meta AI, unveiled during the Meta Connect 2023 event in September last year, is an artificial intelligence system developed by Meta. The company aims to incorporate the generative AI experience into all its social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
Built using a custom model based on Llama 2, a generative text model, and Meta's Large Language Model (LLM) research, Meta AI is designed to facilitate smooth conversational interactions. Additionally, Meta has partnered with Microsoft's Bing to integrate real-time information retrieval into text-based conversations.
Meta has indicated that its AI assistant will serve various purposes, such as providing suggestions, offering entertainment, resolving disputes, and sharing knowledge, thereby providing valuable assistance in diverse situations.
