The inaugural Africa Food Show makes its debut, timed with the rapid growth of Africa’s food and beverage industry. The event aims to showcase the latest trends, innovations, and opportunities within the sector, drawing attention to the expanding market and highlighting the continent’s increasing influence in global food and beverage production, distribution, and consumption.
In recent years, Africa has seen significant economic growth. With a growing population, expanding economies, and the rise of a wealthier middle class, the African food and beverage market is expected to surpass $1 trillion by 2030, according to the African Development Bank.
To meet this demand, Africa's Big 7 has been rebranded as the Africa Food Show, backed by Gulfood and organized by dmg events and Kaoun International. The event will take place in Cape Town from June 10 to 12 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa. As part of the renowned Gulfood series, the Africa Food Show draws on the success of the world's largest food and beverage exhibition in Dubai, the growth of the Saudi Food Show, and the legacy of Africa's Big 7.
At the exclusive launch preview on October 10, 2024, Matt Denton, president of dmg events, stated, "dmg events and Kaoun International bring together extensive F&B sector experience, a strong presence across Africa, and a vast global network. This powerful combination ensures we can deliver an outstanding event for both exhibitors and visitors. The launch also builds on the success of the Saudi Food Show, another fruitful collaboration."
Mark Napier, vice president of Portfolio Growth Food & Hospitality at Dubai World Trade Centre, noted, "Through the Africa Food Show, we aim to unlock the significant opportunities driven by innovation in the F&B industry. This will highlight Africa's untapped potential and contribute to its rise as a global player in the food and beverage sector. Investment in Africa’s F&B industry and its effect on food security and industrial diversification will be key to achieving the continent's economic objectives."
Ailsa Wingfield, managing director of Circana South Africa, addressed the audience, sharing the latest trends and insights in the food and beverage industry. She highlighted, "With specialty foods on an upward trajectory and brand adjacency identified as a critical trend, this is a prime opportunity to showcase our incredible, under-utilized indigenous products and superfoods to a larger audience, with hopes of exporting these products in the future."
