Ministry of Culture in Talks with Yankee Entertainment to Revive Abuja International Carnival

Discussions between the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and the Creative Economy and Yankee Entertainment to revive the Abuja Carnival in November have progressed significantly.

Representatives from both parties recently convened in Abuja to finalize collaboration details and strategize for the upcoming carnival. Originating in 2005, the carnival serves as a vibrant showcase of Nigeria's cultural richness, creative vitality, and societal diversity, featuring a spectrum of events including road shows, street parades, cultural dances, music performances, and masquerade displays. Subsequently, activities such as regattas, polo games, and durbars were integrated into the festivities.

The carnival's revival, accompanied by its rebranding and the initiation of discussions with a singular private partner, underscores the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy's commitment to rejuvenate the event after an eight-year hiatus. Minister Barrister Hannatu Musawa expressed optimism about the venture, highlighting its alignment with the ministry's core mission to champion cultural diversity and bolster the creative economy.

During the gathering, Kehinde Adegbite, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Yankee Entertainment, elucidated on the carnival's vision and objectives, emphasizing its potential to showcase Nigerian cultures on a global scale. The collaborative efforts between public and private entities signal a concerted push to breathe new life into this celebrated cultural extravaganza, fostering national pride and international recognition.

Adegbite highlighted Yankee Entertainment's extensive experience in organizing festivals such as the Ochacho Carnival, Ibeju Lekki Carnival, and Ojodu Carnival, underscoring their commitment to ensuring the upcoming Abuja International Carnival surpasses the scale of the renowned Calabar Christmas Carnival. Moreover, he expressed confidence in attracting participants driven by a passion for culture and the arts from across the globe.

Scheduled for November, the Abuja International Carnival promises a diverse array of activities aimed at captivating audiences and celebrating Nigeria's cultural heritage. These include street shows, a music concert, a captivating boat regatta, the traditional durbar, a lively children's fiesta, and engaging exhibitions. The event's multifaceted program aims to cater to a wide range of interests while fostering a sense of community and appreciation for Nigeria's rich cultural tapestry.
