April 23 (Reuters) - Early on Tuesday, Ukraine's military officials reported that Russia conducted a drone attack on the Black Sea port of Odesa, resulting in injuries to nine individuals, including four children. The assault also targeted Kyiv, the capital city.
According to Oleh Kiper, the governor of the Odesa region, the injured children, including two infants, along with three adults, have been hospitalized for treatment. These developments were communicated via the Telegram messaging app.
The drone attack unleashed by Russia on Ukraine inflicted damage to several residential buildings in the city, causing fires to break out, as confirmed by local authorities. Reports indicate that at least 14 apartments suffered damage due to the assault.
Ukraine's air force disclosed that Russia deployed a total of 16 attack drones and launched two short-range Iskander ballistic missiles in the aggression. According to updates shared on Telegram by the air force, air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed 15 of the drones across various regions of Ukraine, including Odesa, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, and Kyiv. However, the fate of the missiles remains undisclosed at this time.
Serhiy Popko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, confirmed on Telegram that all drones launched by Russia towards Kyiv were successfully intercepted and destroyed. He further stated that there were no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the attack on the capital city.
Additionally, Vitaly Kim, the governor of Mykolaiv, reported on Telegram that wreckage from a downed drone caused damage to a commercial infrastructure building in the region.
