The designer behind Princess Kate's iconic wedding dress has been appointed to lead the renowned fashion house Givenchy. This move marks a significant shift for both the designer and the brand, blending royal elegance with Givenchy's legacy of haute couture. The transition promises exciting new designs and a continued focus on luxury and style under expert leadership.
British fashion designer Sarah Burton, known for creating Princess Catherine's wedding dress, has been announced as the new creative director of Givenchy, the luxury French house said on Monday (Sept 9).
Burton, 50, led Alexander McQueen for over a decade following its founder's death and has designed for stars like Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga. Givenchy, a subsidiary of the LVMH luxury group, specializes in high-end fashion, perfumes, and accessories.
Reflecting on her experience making Kate Middleton's dress for her 2011 wedding to Prince William, Burton described it as "the experience of a lifetime." She was also featured in Time's list of the "World's 100 Most Influential People" in 2012.
After leaving Alexander McQueen last year, her next career move sparked widespread speculation in the fashion industry.
In a statement on Monday (Sept 9), Burton expressed her excitement about her new role, stating she would bring her unique vision and "convictions" to Givenchy, overseeing both women's and men's collections. Her debut show is planned for March next year, according to Givenchy. The creative director role had been vacant since January after the departure of Matthew Williams, who left to focus on his own streetwear brand. – AFP
