Pub campaigners have gone viral by embracing a TikTok trend that resonates strongly with Gen Z. This social media-driven campaign has successfully captured the attention of younger audiences, leveraging viral content and creative strategies. By tapping into TikTok’s popularity, the campaign has significantly boosted brand visibility and engagement, showing how aligning with trending platforms and the interests of Gen Z can lead to substantial success in marketing and outreach.
Campaigners aiming to save a Dorset village pub have gained viral attention by joining a Gen Z TikTok trend.
The residents of Langton Herring are raising funds to purchase and reopen the Elm Tree Inn, which closed in November 2023. In the video, villagers use contemporary youth slang to connect with younger audiences.
The clip has amassed over 1.5 million views, drawing support from across the globe, including Brazil and Canada. Tim and Hilary Warren, along with other campaigners, lead the video. "Our village pub is the G.O.A.T.," says Mr. Warren, whose daughter contributed to the script.
In the 50-second video, the campaigners mention "getting lit on a Friday night" and express how "salty" they feel about the pub’s closure. Mrs. Warren encourages, "Be an Elm Tree stan and help these boomers save their pub."
Martin Pearson from Friends of the Elm Tree explained, "We aimed for something fun instead of just outlining our vision. But it clearly shows this is a community effort. We want future generations to benefit and for everyone involved with the village to shape the Elm Tree Inn's future."
The Elm Tree campaign isn't the first to reach out to Gen Z for help.
In September, Fyfield Manor bed and breakfast in Oxfordshire shared a TikTok video with the caption: "When you ask your Gen Z daughter to write the marketing script."
Similarly, Beamish Museum in County Durham earned a million likes with its Gen Z-themed tour.
