Middle Eastern carrier Qatar Airways is increasing its Boeing 777-9 order to include an additional 20 aircraft.
This new agreement brings the Doha-based airline's total to 94 777X airframes, including 40 that were already 777-9s.
In early 2022, Qatar Airways also ordered 34 of the 777-8F freighters, which sparked the development of this variant. All 777X models are powered by GE Aerospace GE9X engines.
Qatar’s 777X order comprises both 777-9s and 777-8Fs. Qatar Airways Group Chief Badr Mohammed Al-Meer states that the airline operates "one of the youngest fleets".
"Looking ahead, we ensure that all Qatar Airways passengers receive the best products and services available in the industry," he asserts. Boeing has confirmed the addition of Qatar's new jets to its order book. Delivery dates have not been disclosed.
The orders for 74 aircraft prior to this latest agreement were listed as 50 in July 2014, 10 in June 2015, and 14 in January 2022.
