Rihanna hints at the quality of her upcoming songs, describing them as "so good." She reveals she and A$AP Rocky are sorting out how to allocate the tracks between them, suggesting a collaborative musical endeavor between the two artists.
Frankly, she added, even she wants to know when the release date is.
Navigating the intricate developments of R9 could soon require a detailed map. Despite persistent inquiries from journalists, fans, and the public regarding the anticipated follow-up to her 2016 hit album Anti, Rihanna remains elusive, offering ambiguous and occasionally conflicting updates on the status of the ongoing project.
During an interview with ET at the London launch event for the Fenty x Puma Creeper Phatty Earth Tone sneaker on Wednesday, Rihanna was questioned about the possibility of involving her partner A$AP Rocky and their sons RZA and Riot in her forthcoming album, drawing comparisons to Beyoncé's approach.
Rihanna responded, "It's up to them," regarding the potential involvement of her two-year-old first-born with Rocky and their second son, born in August, in her upcoming album. Once again, she remained somewhat vague about the album's release date, expressing her own curiosity by saying, "I wanna know too!" However, despite previously hinting that she hadn't begun recording songs for the album, Rihanna now suggests that she has a substantial number of tracks to consider for inclusion.
"I already got stuff that I feel like I could make hits out of," Rihanna revealed. "Me and Rocky are really trying to figure out who's gonna use what because it's so good."
However, in a recent conversation with Interview magazine, the singer shared a different perspective, stating that she has "a lot of visual ideas" at this stage, which is not her usual creative process. "It's weird. My brain is working backward right now. I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I'm having all of these visuals."
However, Rihanna shared with the magazine the unfortunate news that she currently lacks the songs to complement those visuals, though she remains hopeful that they will emerge soon. "Maybe the visual ideas are leading me to the songs that I need to make," she mused. In February, Rocky added to the intrigue by suggesting that Rihanna was "working" on the album. Then, in March, Rihanna made a notable return to the stage after an eight-year hiatus, performing at a pre-wedding celebration for the son of Asia's wealthiest man.
