Highlights
Six years after the original's release, Rolls-Royce has introduced the refreshed Cullinan super-luxury SUV, now called the Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II. This updated version showcases several stylistic modifications and key interior enhancements to maintain its appeal. This facelift is crucial for Rolls-Royce, given that the Cullinan is its top-selling model globally.
At the heart of the Cullinan's update is a redesigned front end, showcasing new headlights with LED daytime running lights that stretch downward, a prominently-lipped illuminated pantheon grille, and a revised front bumper with restructured air intakes. The bumper's design creates a shallow 'V' shape from the base of the daytime running lights to the center, a design element Rolls-Royce describes as a homage to the 'sharp bow lines of modern sports yachts'.
Additionally, there's a new 'feature line' that extends from the taillights to the center of the 'RR' floating center caps on the rear wheels, along with mirror-finish stainless steel exhaust tips and a brushed stainless-steel rear skid plate.
Inside, the Cullinan Series II largely maintains the original's dashboard design and layout. The new model introduces a pillar-to-pillar glass-panel fascia, featuring an illuminated dash panel in front of the passenger that displays a cityscape graphic. Rolls-Royce notes this is inspired by the nighttime view of skyscrapers in major global cities. The Series II also updates the dual-screen setup, with one screen for digital instruments and another for the infotainment system. Additionally, it incorporates Rolls-Royce's Spirit operating system, first introduced in the all-electric Spectre.
For the first time in a V12-powered Rolls, the Spirit operating system allows customers to customize the color of their instrument dials to coordinate with the exterior or interior color schemes of their Cullinan. The Whispers app, exclusive to Rolls-Royce customers, supports remote vehicle locking, destination sharing directly to the SUV, and location tracking. Additionally, rear seat passengers now have dedicated screens that provide an interface to control content streaming, as well as manage the massage, heating, and cooling features of their seats.
The Series II allows for Bluetooth headphones of any variety to connect with the rear seat screens, and Wi-Fi connectivity enables each screen to stream content independently. Additionally, the Cullinan Series II introduces the Spirit of Ecstasy clock cabinet, featuring an analogue clock and an illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy figurine made from stainless steel.
Trim options now include gray-stained ash, a natural, grained open-pore wood, and a new upholstery choice called Duality Twill, made from bamboo-derived rayon. Crafting a complete Duality Twill interior involves 2.2 million stitches, 11 miles of thread, and 20 hours of labor, according to Rolls-Royce.
The Cullinan Series II continues to use the original’s 6.75-litre, twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering nearly 600 bhp in the Black Badge version, along with 900 Nm of torque.
Rolls-Royce notes in a press release that fewer than 10 percent of Cullinan owners globally employ a chauffeur, preferring to drive themselves. The brand attributes the SUV to a decrease in the average age of its clientele, from 56 in 2010 to 43 currently.
The Cullinan Series II is now available for orders, and it is expected to carry a higher price tag than the previous model's Rs 6.95 crore (ex-showroom, before options).
