Russian forces persist in their assault on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, aiming to capitalize on recent advances in the strategically vital northeastern region. Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported via Telegram that Ukrainian forces successfully repelled multiple ground attacks. 

Meanwhile, Kharkiv endured at least five drone strikes overnight, with an air raid alert lasting over 16-and-a-half hours, the longest since Russia's invasion in February 2022, according to Ukraine's public broadcaster Suspilne. CNBC cannot independently confirm on-ground developments.

During his state visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin lauded the economic collaboration between Moscow and Beijing. Addressing the Russia-China Expo in Harbin, Putin highlighted efforts to diversify Russia's exports to China, particularly in agriculture, encompassing products like fish, crops, and pork.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov urged the U.S. to engage with its proposals for a prisoner swap, blaming Washington for slow progress. Ryabkov emphasized the need for a pragmatic approach and stated that the U.S. has not responded adequately to Moscow's proposals. The U.S. State Department spokesperson was unavailable for immediate comment.
