On May 31 and June 1, the fashion department students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp showcased their designs at the Waagnatie event centre in Antwerp.

The show was divided into three segments. In the first part, the first-year and second-year bachelor students exhibited their projects. The presentation of the BA1 students and their project 'historical costumes' was enhanced by a professional dance performance, emphasizing dresses with corset tops.

Following that, the academy's second-year students displayed their designs as part of the 'world costumes' project. Each group of students' study year and names were announced by a mechanical deep voice, continuously projected on a digital screen above the stage.

After a brief intermission, the spotlight shifted to the third-year students, who presented their final bachelor collections, accompanied by a diverse range of musical genres.

During the final segment of the show, the graduating master students unveiled their collections. In contrast to the earlier parts of the show, each master student's name was individually projected on the digital screen above the stage, and the models had ample time to showcase the creations of each designer, providing numerous photo opportunities.

Among this year's master students were five Belgian designers, including the 27-year-old Pommie Dierick. Dierick had an impressive track record, having won both the Flanders Fashion Makers award for her final bachelor collection last year and the Rosier41 prize from the prestigious Antwerp high fashion multi-brand store bearing the same name.

The fashion department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp boasts a prestigious list of alumni, with perhaps the most renowned group being "The Antwerp Six": Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter van Beirendonck, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saenen, and Marina Yee, who all graduated from the academy in 1980.

Additionally, Martin Margiela, a Belgian designer who graduated one year earlier, is often associated with "The Antwerp Six" due to his close ties and influence on the group. Furthermore, Balenciaga's creative director, Demna Gvasalia, is another notable figure who attended the academy. Designer Haider Ackermann is also among the esteemed alumni of this Belgian institution.
