Spotify will soon show subscription price details directly in its app for Apple devices in the EU. This new feature aims to improve transparency for users by providing clear information about costs and payment options. The update will make it easier for EU users to manage their Spotify subscriptions and stay informed about pricing directly within the app.
Spotify (SPOT.N) will update its app for Apple (AAPL.O) devices in the European Union on Wednesday to include pricing for its various plans and services. This move comes over three months after Apple rejected Spotify's initial attempt, citing Spotify's refusal to accept Apple's new Music Streaming Services Entitlement terms, which govern how streaming apps inform users about alternative payment options.
Spotify has now agreed to these terms but will not provide an external link for purchases within its iOS app to avoid paying Apple a commission. Apple had stated that accepting the new terms did not necessitate an external payment link.
Spotify acknowledged this as a step forward but called it a minor improvement in the broader goal of delivering expected app experiences to iPhone users. Earlier in April, Apple had eased communication rules for music streaming apps on iOS devices in the EU, following a €1.84 billion ($2 billion) fine from Brussels for anticompetitive practices in its App Store. Apple has yet to comment on the update.
