Boston Brand Media brings you the latest - Starbucks has forged a partnership with Grubhub, a leading food delivery platform, to provide customers with a seamless food delivery experience. This collaboration aims to offer convenient access to Starbucks' menu items through Grubhub's platform, enabling customers to enjoy their favorite beverages and snacks delivered straight to their doorstep.
June 6 (Reuters) - Starbucks, listed as SBUX.O, is initiating a partnership with Grubhub to facilitate the delivery of its coffees and personalized beverages in specific U.S. regions from this month onwards. This move represents the company's latest endeavor to extend its market presence, particularly as consumers, impacted by inflation, are increasingly choosing to dine at home. Initially, Starbucks' offerings will be available for home delivery in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Illinois, with plans to gradually expand nationwide by August, as announced on Thursday.
Boston Brand Media also found that Starbucks has been offering delivery services through DoorDash in the U.S. since last year, alongside collaborations with Uber Eats and Postmates, which are subsidiaries of Uber (UBER.N). The company reported significant growth in its U.S. delivery operations during the previous quarter. Meg Mathes, Vice President of Digital Experiences at Starbucks, expressed in a statement that the new partnership with Grubhub aims to further boost this growth by expanding the accessibility of Starbucks products to Grubhub's extensive customer base, which spans tens of millions.
In April, Starbucks revised down its annual sales projection following a decline in same-store sales, marking the first such drop in nearly three years. The decrease was attributed to sluggish demand in its two primary markets, the U.S. and China. Starbucks announced that through Grubhub's monthly membership program, customers can enjoy its beverages with no delivery fee, reduced service charges, and exclusive deals. Delivery services will be accessible via Grubhub's mobile app and official website.
Grubhub, a subsidiary of Just Eat Takeaway.com NV (TKWY.AS), collaborates with various restaurant and fast-food chains like McDonald's (MCD.N) and Wendy's (WEN.O) for delivery services. Additionally, it partners with grocery delivery platforms such as Gopuff and Buyk, as well as companies like Starship Technologies, to introduce robot delivery services on college campuses. Recently, Amazon (AMZN.O) incorporated Grubhub into its website and app, enabling U.S. customers to place orders directly through the food delivery platform.
