The Top 10 Fall 2024 Trends From Copenhagen Fashion Week

The latest fashion trends for Fall 2024 are characterized by a shift towards realism rather than fantasy, as stated by Bottega Veneta's Matthieu Blazy, who aims to elevate everyday items into something monumental. This season emphasizes the importance of materials and textures over specific silhouettes, blending heritage tweeds and herringbones with plaids and knits to evoke a cozy English countryside aesthetic. Ski sweaters evoke a sense of nostalgia for snow, while outerwear made from shearling, faux furs, feathers, and yarn not only provide warmth but also serve as statement pieces, effortlessly embodying either a glamorous or bohemian vibe.

Despite designers focusing more on practical daywear and mix-and-match separates, there's a deliberate detachment from the harsh realities of the world. Deep red-wine-colored garments offer a sense of comfort amidst global turmoil, with luxury fashion opting to provide solace through protective clothing that embraces the wearer. Henry Zankov's collection, aptly named "Hold Me Closer," aims to evoke the sensation of being hugged by one's clothes. Novel interpretations of camouflage and high collars contribute to this theme of security and anonymity.

Tinsel embellishments add a touch of extroverted expression, while the revival of Le Smoking—a classic symbol of masculine formalwear—brings a Gatsby-esque sophistication to evening attire. Some designers deconstruct this archetype, playing with satin-lapel jackets and cummerbunds to challenge formality and gender norms. Pinstripes and neckties are also creatively manipulated to challenge notions of capitalism and power, drawing inspiration from Saint Laurent's Working Girl references. Interestingly, elements from Bret Easton Ellis's novel, such as the well-dressed yet sinister character Patrick Bateman, serve as inspiration for some designers' collections, reflecting a continued fascination with duality and contradiction in fashion.
