Forecasters have issued warnings for thunderstorms and heavy showers on Sunday, affecting much of England, eastern Wales, and southern Scotland. The Met Office warns of a "small chance of flooding and disruption" in some areas as a result.

A yellow warning, urging people to "be aware," took effect from 04:00 BST, covering large portions of southern England, the Midlands, and the north, and will remain in place until 23:59.  Forecasters predict thunderstorms and heavy rain will move northward throughout the day, though not all areas within the warning zone will be impacted.

Further heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected overnight, with another yellow Met Office warning in place from 00:01 BST to 23:59 on Monday. The Met Office's yellow warning for thunderstorms is active throughout Sunday, potentially affecting southern and central England with the risk of flooding, frequent lightning, and hail. BBC Weather predicts that heavy showers and thunderstorms will move northward across parts of southwest England, the Midlands, eastern Wales, and into northern England. Later on Sunday, some areas of southern Scotland may also be affected.

In England, the warning area on Sunday stretches from Exeter to West Sussex, extending northward to Cumbria and Northumberland. In Wales, the warning applies to eastern regions from Bridgend up through the country's central spine to Denbighshire in the north. Southeastern Scotland, including Edinburgh, is also under the yellow warning.

The heaviest downpours will feature frequent lightning and gusty winds. However, pinpointing the exact locations of these showers is difficult, so it's advisable to stay updated with the latest forecasts as they may change, according to BBC Weather. Outside of the heavy showers and thunderstorms, there will be some sunny intervals.

Many areas will feel very warm and humid, particularly in southeast England, where temperatures could reach 29°C on Sunday afternoon. Elsewhere, temperatures will generally range from the low to mid-20s Celsius. For Monday, the warning covers a large portion of England, eastern and northern Wales, and extends into southern and eastern Scotland.

The Met Office notes that "while many places will miss them, thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption." It also warns that thunderstorms could bring 60-80mm of rain within an hour in isolated locations, with frequent lightning strikes and hail posing additional hazards.
