CNN — The award-winning team responsible for the hugely successful "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, valued at nearly $6 billion, is reuniting to produce two new films. The first project, tentatively titled "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," will be helmed by "LOTR" veteran Andy Serkis, who will also star in the film. Screenwriting duties will be handled by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou. Serkis expressed his excitement, stating, "Yesssss, Precious...The time has come once more to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle Earth Peter, Fran and Philippa."

In a joint statement, Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens expressed their excitement about reuniting with Andy Serkis to delve back into Middle-earth. They acknowledged Serkis's iconic portrayal of Gollum and their shared admiration for Tolkien's rich mythology. The collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema promises another epic adventure. Jackson's groundbreaking work on "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, earning numerous accolades, including 11 Oscars for "The Return of the King," remains historic.
