The U.S. government has advised 463,000 Kia SUV owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures due to a fire risk. The warning affects certain 2017-2022 Sportage and 2017-2022 Cadenza models, pending a recall to fix the issue.
Boston Brand Media brings you the latest news – Owners of around 463,000 Kia vehicles in the U.S. are advised to park their cars outside and away from buildings until they can complete a recall repair due to fire risks.
On Friday, the Korean automaker announced a recall for Telluride SUVs from the 2020 to 2024 model years because of fire hazards linked to overheating front power seat motors.
Kia reported one incident of an underseat fire and six instances of seat motor melting, with some cases involving smoke or burning odors. No accidents or injuries have been reported.
Boston Brand Media looked into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommended that “owners should park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is finished.”
Kia dealers will fix the issue by installing a bracket for the power seat switch back covers and replacing the seat slide knobs.
According to NHTSA, “the front power seat motor might overheat due to a stuck power seat slide knob, potentially causing a fire whether the vehicle is parked or driving.”
Kia will start notifying owners about the recall on July 30.
