WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature enabling users to join channels by scanning QR codes. This update aims to simplify the process of discovering and joining channels, improving accessibility and user engagement. By allowing QR code scanning, WhatsApp enhances its platform’s functionality, making it easier for users to connect with various channels and receive updates.
WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that allows users to scan QR codes to view and join channels on the platform. This feature, currently in development, aims to simplify the process of discovering and following new channels.
A recent report from WABetaInfo reveals that this new feature is available for users on the latest WhatsApp beta versions for both Android and iOS. As shown in the image, scanning the QR code with the phone’s camera directs users to the channel, where they can view and join it if it aligns with their interests.
To access a channel’s QR code, users must navigate to the channel, tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner, and go to the share menu. In this menu, they will find an option to generate and display the QR code, which serves as a shortcut to the channel.
This new method is more convenient than the traditional approach of copying and pasting a link in a chat, especially when the person you want to share the channel with is nearby.
For business owners, this feature can be particularly useful, as they can print the QR code on items such as business cards, posters, and flyers. However, since the feature is still in beta, it’s unclear when it will be available on the stable version, meaning it might take some time before it’s accessible on your device.
In recent weeks, WhatsApp has been rolling out several new features, including voice message transcription and an option to add custom messages when forwarding text, images, or links.
