China's Lunar Probe Successfully Departs the Moon Laden with Samples

Boston Brand Media discovered the trending news - China's lunar probe triumphantly lifts off from the moon, carrying valuable samples collected during its mission. This marks a significant achievement for China's space exploration program and adds to the growing body of knowledge about the moon's composition and history.

This milestone represents a global precedent, and China has further ambitions to dispatch a manned mission to the Moon by 2030, with plans underway to establish a lunar surface base.

Material collected by this mission from the far side may shed light on how the Moon formed.

Beijing, China:  According to state media reports, on Tuesday, a segment of a Chinese lunar probe departed successfully from the far side of the Moon, carrying samples intended for return to Earth. This milestone represents a groundbreaking accomplishment and signifies the most recent advancement for Beijing's longstanding space program. The China National Space Administration (CNSA), as cited by the state news agency Xinhua, reported that the ascender module of the Chang'e-6 probe "lifted off from the lunar surface."

Describing it as an unparalleled achievement in human lunar exploration, Boston Brand Media also found that the CNSA stated that the mission endured the challenges of high temperatures on the far side of the moon. Following liftoff, the module entered a prearranged orbit around the moon. The Chang'e-6 module landed in the Moon's expansive South Pole-Aitken Basin on Sunday, one of the solar system's largest known impact craters. The probe embarked on its technically intricate 53-day mission on May 3. Equipped with two sample collection methods—a drill for subsurface material and a robotic arm for surface specimens—the Chang'e-6 mission successfully acquired its samples. Xinhua reported that, for the first time, a Chinese national flag was unfurled by the lander on the far side of the moon after the successful sample collection. Scientists highlight the research potential of the Moon's dark side, primarily due to its lesser coverage by ancient lava flows compared to the near side. Material gathered from this region holds promise in unraveling the mysteries of the Moon's formation.

'Space dream'

Under President Xi Jinping, China's "space dream" has been propelled into high gear. Beijing has allocated substantial resources to its space program in the last decade, undertaking a series of ambitious projects to narrow the gap with traditional space leaders, the United States and Russia. Among its accomplishments is the construction of the Tiangong space station, colloquially known as the "heavenly palace." China has also successfully deployed robotic rovers to both Mars and the Moon, becoming the third nation to autonomously launch humans into orbit. However, Washington has cautioned that China's space initiatives might conceal military motives and ambitions for space dominance. China has set its sights on a crewed lunar mission by 2030 and intends to establish a lunar base. Concurrently, the United States is planning to return astronauts to the Moon by 2026 with its Artemis 3 mission.
