GeekWire offers extensive coverage of startups, providing deep insights into the entrepreneurial scene in the Pacific Northwest. Their reporting showcases the innovative landscape, highlighting emerging businesses and key industry trends that define the region's dynamic and growing startup ecosystem.

Travis Rush hails from Gold Beach, a small coastal town in Southern Oregon with limited healthcare resources. Now, as CEO and co-founder of Reperio Health, a Portland-based startup, he aims to address this gap by offering in-home health screenings. Reperio recently secured $14 million in funding to further its mission.

The company provides convenient kits by mail, containing tools for various tests such as blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index measurement, and blood tests for cholesterol, triglycerides, lipids, and glucose levels. An accompanying app guides users through the testing process, and results are automatically uploaded via Bluetooth connection. After use, kits are returned by mail and devices are sterilized for reuse.

“We have users ranging from 18 to 80 years old who find our kits incredibly easy to use,” Rush noted.

Initially targeting consumers, Reperio quickly pivoted its focus to businesses seeking wellness solutions for employees. The startup also partners with hospital networks to serve patients who lack nearby lab access or face mobility challenges. Additionally, it collaborates with life insurance providers and explores partnerships with systems supporting Medicaid clients.

Rush highlighted that thousands of kits have been shipped nationwide, with over 90% completion rates. While individual screenings cost consumers $129, bulk contracts with employers or healthcare providers can bring down the price to as low as $75 per use.

To expedite testing, Reperio partnered with Uber for kit deliveries within an hour of ordering, setting up distribution hubs in metro areas while remote customers still receive kits by mail.

Furthermore, Reperio is developing a service where a nurse practitioner provides consultations immediately after the test. Using AI, the platform analyzes results and suggests treatment plans, aiming to streamline access to care.

With a total of $20 million raised so far, Reperio is seeking an additional $10 million or more to bolster its expanded mission. The company is in discussions with manufacturers of various biometric devices to diversify its range of tests. Currently, Reperio employs 24 individuals.

Founded in 2020 by Travis Rush and Matt Wallington, who serves as Chief Technology Officer, the duo previously collaborated at Sightbox. This company, initiated in 2015, provided a subscription service for eye exams and contact lens fittings and supplies, ultimately acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2017.

The recent funding round includes investors from Reperio's 2021 seed round, such as Caduceus Capital Partners from Nashville, Rogue Venture Partners and Portland Seed Fund from Oregon, and Liquid 2 Ventures based in San Francisco, alongside participation from angel investors.

In the competitive landscape of at-home health testing, Reperio contends with companies like Tasso, headquartered in Seattle, offering blood tests for patients in clinical trials, as well as Everlywell, Vida Health, and others.
