German Neo-Nazi Dies After Fall from Adolf Hitler's "Favorite Mountain"

A German Neo-Nazi died after falling from a mountain in Austria known as Adolf Hitler's "favorite." The incident took place during a hike on the Untersberg mountain, a location with historical ties to Hitler's admiration. The man was reportedly known for his far-right views and the event has drawn attention due to the controversial nature of the site among neo-Nazi sympathizers.

Andreas Munzhuber's friends, along with two other climbers on the 1,972-meter mountain, contacted emergency services, but he was declared deceased upon their arrival.

A German neo-Nazi, Andreas Munzhuber, died on September 29 after falling from Untersberg mountain, known for its association with Adolf Hitler. Munzhuber, a senior member of the Bavarian faction of the neo-Nazi group, The Third Way, slipped on a wet root while climbing with a group of 30, plummeting 196 feet. Despite quick calls to emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A rescue helicopter and a medical doctor were dispatched, but Munzhuber’s death was confirmed upon their arrival, according to German outlet Merkur.

Untersberg mountain holds historical significance due to Hitler's fondness for the area, where he built his Eagle’s Nest retreat nearby, as reported by the Telegraph. Over the years, the site has become a pilgrimage destination for fascist groups. In 2017, a group was seen performing Nazi salutes and shouting “Sieg Heil” at passersby, with swastika-decorated beer mats discovered later at their accommodation.

Munzhuber served as the treasurer and assessor for The Third Way's regional association and leaves behind a partner and a baby born in June. Right-wing groups, including the Prisoner Aid Friends Circle, expressed their grief, saying, “His death hits us all hard. I ask you to support a little girl who will never know her father,” according to the NY Post.

These groups are now raising donations to support Munzhuber's wife and child, and they plan to place a memorial stone at the site of his death. A fundraising page for his funeral described him as “Munzi” and emphasized the loss felt by his family, particularly his young daughter. As of Friday afternoon, the page had raised about £10,000 (approximately Rs 11 lakh).

Munzhuber was described as a "senior board member" of Der III Weg (The Third Way), an offshoot of the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD), founded in Heidelberg in 2013
