Hezbollah Leader Eliminated in Israeli Strike: "A Threat to the World Has Been Removed"
“Hassan Nasrallah has been killed,” announced military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani in a statement on X.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in a strike on Beirut, according to the Israeli military's statement today. A source affiliated with Hezbollah informed AFP that all contact with the 64-year-old Nasrallah had been lost since Friday night. "Hassan Nasrallah is dead," Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani confirmed in a post on X.
Israeli strikes hit multiple Hezbollah sites across eastern and southern Lebanon following heavy rocket attacks launched by the group into northern Israel. Overnight, Israeli jets targeted Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut, leveling several residential buildings. "Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world," the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated in an official announcement.
"This is not the end of our toolbox. The message is simple: anyone who threatens the citizens of Israel — we will know how to reach them," Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi declared in a statement. This wave of retaliatory strikes came shortly after Hezbollah claimed responsibility for rocket attacks on northern Israel. One of these attacks targeted the kibbutz Kabri using Fadi-1 rockets, which Hezbollah described as a response to what they called Israeli "barbaric" aggression against Lebanon.
Nasrallah, a powerful figure in Lebanon and a key leader among Shiite supporters, is regarded as the only person capable of leading Hezbollah into either war or peace. The 64-year-old’s daughter, Zainab, was reportedly killed in an airstrike targeting Hezbollah areas in southern Beirut, as per Israel's Channel 12, though Hezbollah and Lebanese media have not confirmed this.
In 2006, following Israel's invasion of Lebanon, Nasrallah was rumored to have been killed, but he resurfaced days later unscathed. This latest Israeli assault also resulted in the deaths of Ali Karake, commander of Hezbollah's southern front, and other members of the group.
“During Hassan Nasrallah's 32-year reign as Secretary-General of Hezbollah, he was responsible for the murder of many Israeli civilians and soldiers, as well as planning and executing thousands of terrorist acts,” read an Israeli statement. "Nasrallah was the primary decision-maker and strategic leader, directing terrorist attacks worldwide that resulted in civilian casualties of various nationalities."
Amid escalating tensions, air raid sirens blared across northern Israel, indicating a threat from rockets launched from Lebanon. The Israeli military reported that two surface-to-surface missiles were fired; one fell in an open area, and the other was intercepted.
As a precaution, Lebanon's health ministry ordered the evacuation of hospitals in Beirut's southern suburbs in anticipation of further escalation. The ministry directed unaffected hospitals to halt the admission of non-emergency patients to create space for those being relocated from conflict areas. The ongoing Israeli bombing campaign in Lebanon has so far killed over 700 people and displaced approximately 118,000.
