Kamala Harris vs Donald Trump: Who's Leading the White House Race?

The race for the White House heats up as Kamala Harris and Donald Trump go head-to-head following a pivotal debate. This article explores who is leading the 2024 presidential race, analyzing their performances, key policies, and public opinion shifts. With the election approaching, both candidates are striving to gain momentum and secure a path to victory.

Kamala Harris is generally seen as having outshined Donald Trump during the September 10 presidential debate.

Washington: Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, has widened her lead over Republican Donald Trump in the race for the November 5 U.S. presidential election, according to multiple polls conducted after their September 10 televised debate. Harris, viewed by many as outperforming Trump during the debate, now holds a 47% to 42% lead in a Reuters/Ipsos poll from September 11-19.

In the latest Economist/YouGov poll, Harris leads by four percentage points among registered U.S. voters, marking the largest lead in nearly a year. The last significant lead was when President Joe Biden led Trump by 45% to 40% in a September 2023 poll.

Prior to the debate, Harris, who replaced Biden as the Democratic nominee, was ahead by two points in the Economist/YouGov poll. Real Clear Politics, which had Harris with a 1.4-point advantage over Trump on September 10, has now increased that margin to two points (49.3% to 47.3%) as of September 19.

Polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight now shows Harris ahead by about three points, up from two before the debate. Similarly, Silver Bulletin reports a lead of more than three points for Harris.

The September 10 debate, hosted by ABC News, drew over 67 million television viewers, according to Nielsen data, surpassing the 51 million who watched Trump’s debate against then-candidate Joe Biden in June. Biden’s poor performance in that debate led him to withdraw from the 2024 race, a decision he made official in July.
