New Orleans International Airport has achieved a new passenger record, driven by the influx of fans attending Taylor Swift's consecutive concerts. The remarkable attendance at these events not only highlights Swift's popularity but also demonstrates the significant economic impact major concerts can have on local travel and tourism. This surge in passengers underscores the city's appeal as a prime destination for large-scale events.
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is entering its final phase, attracting fans to the last shows. Following a series of concerts, New Orleans Airport has set a new all-time passenger record.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour drew fans from across the nation to New Orleans. The pop star performed three consecutive shows on October 25th, 26th, and 27th. On Sunday, as concert attendees left the city, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) achieved its highest passenger volume ever, processing 32,134 travelers through security.
According to NOLA, this new record surpasses the previous high of 27,972 departing passengers, which was reached in April, by 4,162, or 14%. Simple Flying has reached out to the airport for further comments.
All three shows at the Caesars Superdome were sold out, with an average daily attendance of 64,000 fans, making it the largest turnout in the venue's history.
Over the weekend, more than 150,000 attendees flooded the city, significantly boosting the local economy. Hotels reached full capacity, restaurants were bustling, and it’s estimated that the 200,000 concertgoers, including 50,000 locals, injected hundreds of millions of dollars into the economy.
The Influence of a Pop Icon
Dubbed “The Swift Effect,” Taylor Swift’s concerts consistently attract both fans and money, benefiting MSY greatly. The Eras Tour is known for enhancing the local economies at each venue. Notably, Singapore secured an exclusive deal with Swift to make it the only Southeast Asian stop on the tour, nearly causing an international incident.
Even when she isn’t the main focus, Swift’s presence increases sales and viewer engagement. For instance, her appearance at Super Bowl LVIII, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs versus the San Francisco 49ers, drew 27 million viewers, many of whom were young women tuning in for a glimpse of the star.
