At least 23 people were injured when two gondolas on a Ferris wheel caught fire at a music festival near Leipzig in eastern Germany, according to a report by the dpa news agency on Sunday.

The fire began in one gondola and quickly spread to a second on Saturday night, as confirmed by police. Among the injured, four people suffered burns, and one sustained injuries from a fall. Several others, including first responders and at least four police officers, were hospitalized for potential smoke inhalation.

The incident occurred at the Highfield festival at Störmthaler Lake, near Leipzig. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

As of Sunday morning, police were still unable to provide specific details regarding the condition of the injured, and the exact number of casualties remained unclear.

The Ferris wheel operator informed dpa that no passengers were in the gondola where the fire initially started.
