Kyiv: Six Killed in Consecutive Russian Strikes on Ukrainian Medical Center
On Saturday morning, two consecutive Russian attacks on a medical center in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine, claimed six lives, according to Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
"The first attack killed one person and damaged the ceilings of several hospital floors. The evacuation of patients and staff began," Klymenko said on Telegram. During the evacuation, a second strike killed an additional five people.
Attacks on Sumy have intensified since Ukraine launched an operation in Russia's neighboring Kursk region in August, capturing numerous settlements. Sumy, just 32 km from the Russian border, has faced repeated assaults involving drones and guided bombs. The regional administration reported that Saturday's strike was carried out by drones.
Ukrainian Forces Shoot Down 69 Russian Drones Amid Overnight Attacks
Earlier on Saturday, Ukrainian air forces reported intercepting 69 out of 73 drones in an overnight Russian assault, which also involved two ballistic and two cruise missiles.
In Kyiv, the military administration confirmed that approximately 15 Russian attack drones were destroyed by air defenses on the city's outskirts and within the capital. The successful interception efforts showcase Ukraine's ongoing resilience against Russia's sustained offensive, as tensions continue to rise amid repeated attacks on both civilian and strategic targets across the country.
