Technicians employed at Air India Engineering Services have called off their strike after reaching a settlement with management.

The union notified management of the strike on April 8, citing several unresolved issues as the reason and alleging ongoing neglect by management. Dissatisfaction among employees stemmed from concerns such as insufficient pay and lack of promotional opportunities.

The aircraft technicians from the government-owned Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) who were protesting have opted to cancel the planned protest scheduled for April 23. This decision was communicated to the CEO & Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of the organization through a letter sent on Friday.

According to a letter obtained by CNBC-TV18, the All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Union (AIAMEU) stated, "Following the assurance provided by the CHRO (HQs), we are retracting the aforementioned strike notice and guarantee that we will not proceed with the proposed strike."

On April 8, the union notified the management about the impending strike, citing various unresolved issues and alleging ongoing neglect by management. Dissatisfaction among employees stemmed from inadequate compensation and promotion opportunities.

Following negotiations with management, the union and management reached a resolution and signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Under the terms of the settlement, AIAMEU agreed to retract its strike notice.

The management of AIESL has committed to promptly revising and implementing the pay of technicians employed within the organization, aiming for completion by the end of April. Additionally, a new service level agreement will be adjusted as per the agreement's terms.

Career progression for technicians will be enforced based on approved norms, with implementation slated within two months following the settlement, ideally by May 31. Representatives of trade unions have consented to ensure that all technicians submit their new Service Level Agreements (SLAs) promptly, preferably within two weeks, before their pay is revised accordingly.

The settlement outlined in the letter will take effect immediately and will be valid for a duration of four years from the date of its signing. AIESL operates under Air India Assets Holding Ltd. (AIAHL), formerly a subsidiary of the government-owned Air India.

AIAHL was established in 2019 to manage all non-core assets and debts of Air India as part of a restructuring initiative.
