Agoda unveiled its 2025 Travel Trends survey on Tuesday, revealing key factors that will influence the travel landscape in Asia next year. The survey highlights a strong preference for relaxation, family-focused trips, and the excitement of exploring new destinations as the top motivations for travelers.

For many travelers, quality time with family is a top priority. More than one-third of travelers (34%) plan to travel with family in 2025. Indonesians are the most enthusiastic about family trips, with 58% expecting to take multi-generational vacations. Indians are close behind, with 30% opting for family travel. Following these, couples (23%) and solo travelers (19%) are the next most popular travel group choices among Asian travelers.
Relaxation is key: The top travel motivation
Escape from daily stress is the primary reason for travel, according to the survey. A significant 75% of respondents cited relaxation as their most important motivation. In India, this motivation is even more pronounced, with 80% of respondents prioritizing relaxation during vacations. Regionally, visiting family and friends ranks second (38%), with cultural exploration following at third place (35%).
Tech-savvy travelers: Technology in trip planning
Technology plays a crucial role in shaping how people plan their trips. A large majority of travelers (80%) intend to use travel apps, while 12% are interested in virtual reality tours. Indian travelers are the most tech-oriented, with 90% of them using travel apps for booking.
Budget-conscious travel: Spending wisely
Budget remains a significant consideration for many travelers, with 65% planning to spend under $250 (INR 21,073) per night on accommodations. For Indian travelers, 70% consider budgeting the most crucial factor when planning a trip. Despite these considerations, 87% of travelers plan to take the same number of trips or more than in 2024, with over half of these trips (52%) crossing international borders.
Digital nomads on the rise: Work and travel blend
The survey also highlights the increasing trend of digital nomads, workers who combine remote work and travel. 1 in 25 travelers expects to work while traveling in 2025, with companies increasingly offering flexible work arrangements. The Philippines stands out as a hub for digital nomads, with 1 in 14 travelers from the country planning to work remotely during their trips.
Exploration drives travel: Seeking new destinations
Exploring new destinations is a thrilling experience for 84% of travelers in 2025. Inspiration for travel comes from various places, including personal hobbies and interests (71%), appealing deals (56%), and family and friend recommendations (33%). Social media also plays a role, inspiring 20% of travelers. In India, loyalty programs and great value deals are vital, with 28% of travelers considering them essential when planning trips. This trend reflects a growing partnership between banks, credit card companies, and travel platforms in India.
Theme parks: A reason to travel
Theme parks across Asia, such as Tokyo Disneyland, Shanghai Disneyland, Lotte World in Seoul, Universal Studios in Osaka and Singapore, and Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi, are significant attractions year-round. Over 13% of travelers plan to visit theme parks in 2025. For Indian travelers, destinations like the UAE and Singapore are top choices, with many planning trips specifically to experience theme parks, including thrilling rides and attractions.
