Audi CEO Sends Strong Message to Future F1 Competitors with 'Leading Edge' Pledge

Audi's CEO issues a stern warning to prospective Formula 1 adversaries, emphasizing their dedication to innovation and performance. With a pledge to maintain a leading position in the sport, Audi signals its intent to compete fiercely at the forefront of F1 technology and competition.

Audi's Gernot Dollner expresses enthusiasm for the company's upcoming venture into Formula 1 in 2026, following the resolution of uncertainties surrounding the project. Progress towards their racing debut is evident as Audi finalizes the acquisition of Sauber, having previously held a minority stake in the Swiss team.

The team has made significant progress in finalizing its driver lineup, securing Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg's signature in April. Speculation swirls around potential teammates for the experienced German, with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz among the rumored candidates, especially after Lewis Hamilton's upcoming move to Ferrari in 2025. Dollner acknowledges past uncertainties surrounding Audi's F1 project, revealing discussions about potentially discontinuing it when he assumed development responsibilities last September.

In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, the 55-year-old emphasized two approaches to Formula 1 involvement: either not participating or striving to lead. Audi chose the latter, accelerating their commitment to F1. With Oliver Hoffmann leading the project, they're confident in their ability to compete at the highest level. Despite the challenges, Audi is determined to succeed in the pinnacle of motorsport.
