DSM-Firmenich and Deloitte partner on animal protein sustainability

DSM-Firmenich has announced a partnership with Deloitte to ‘unlock new opportunities’ related to sustainability across the animal protein value chain.

The partnership has been launched to address the growing need for environmental accountability by pairing DSM-Firmenich’s Sustell life cycle assessment (LCA) platform with Deloitte’s consulting expertise. This aims to remove existing barriers and empower the agri-food ecosystem to adopt more sustainable practices.

Sustell measures companies’ full environmental footprint and provides actionable insights on how to reduce impact. It was developed in collaboration with key partners such as Blonk, an agri-food lifecycle analysis specialist, as well as customers and users worldwide.

The platform uses farm-level data to simply the complexity of measuring, validating and improving animal protein sustainability in a transparent and science-based process.

Joint initiatives will help to connect players throughout the value chain on sustainability data and reporting, facilitate dialogue and understanding with key opinion leaders, bridge knowledge gaps, and improve understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to sustainable animal protein.

DSM-Firmenich’s vice president of sustainability and business solutions, David Nickell, said the partnership represents “a pivotal milestone” in the company’s journey toward unlocking sustainability-related opportunities that can “transform” the animal protein value chain.

He added: “Deloitte’s global influence and cross-industry reach will amplify our efforts, enabling us to drive meaningful and lasting change”.

Jorg Schalekamp, partner at Deloitte, commented: “Sustell stands out as the industry-leading solution for environmental accountability. We will play a key role in driving adoption and ensuring solutions like Sustell achieve their full impact potential to deliver value across the full supply chain, from feed to farm to fork.”
