GEA Unveils Thermoforming Packaging Machine for Small Food Companies

GEA has launched a new thermoforming packaging machine aimed at small and medium-sized food companies. This advanced machine is designed to enhance packaging efficiency and flexibility, catering specifically to the needs of smaller businesses in the food industry. The new equipment promises to streamline packaging processes and boost productivity for companies with limited resources.

Under the theme "Re Packaging," GEA will showcase its latest machine and control technologies for the food sector at Fachpack in Nuremberg, Germany, from September 24 to 26 (Hall 7A/Stand 563). The spotlight will be on the new PowerPak 1000 thermoformer, designed for packaging meat, meat substitutes, poultry, and cheese. This entry-level thermoforming machine incorporates advanced features typically found in higher-end models.

Stefan Runkel, GEA Food Application Solutions' product manager for thermoforming, expressed enthusiasm about presenting the PowerPak 1000 to a broader audience. He emphasized that this machine will assist smaller companies in enhancing their packaging efficiency and output, leveraging GEA’s extensive expertise and flexible service.

The new GEA solution offers various benefits for companies transitioning from traditional vacuum chamber machines or tray-sealers, including greater capacity, flexibility in pack size, and reduced plastic use.

The PowerPak 1000 is capable of producing vacuum, MAP, or skin packs, catering to diverse product and packaging needs, and can be easily adapted to shifting consumer demands. This machine can be viewed and tested at the GEA Technology and Application Center XLAB in Biedenkopf-Wallau, Germany.

Another highlight is the SmartPacker CX400 vertical pillow bag packaging machine. It creates four types of pouches for products like frozen and fresh fruit, vegetables, potatoes, or protein foods. This high-capacity, form-fill-seal machine handles bag widths from 55 mm to 400 mm and processes up to 120 bags per minute.

Additional features include rapid changeovers of bag formats and film types in under 5 minutes, precise product detection in the seal, and high-tech composite forming shoulders for smooth film transport in humid conditions. The CX400’s Smart Sealing System can seal up to one million bags before requiring strip replacement, which is efficiently done with minimal downtime using the click-and-go device.
