King River Capital, Immutable, and Polygon Labs are launching the Inevitable Games Fund with $100 million to invest into early-stage Web3 gaming startups.
The IGF is set to leverage the collective expertise and resources of Web3 industry leaders to identify and support high-growth opportunities for investors.
Led by King River Capital, in partnership with Immutable and Polygon Labs, the fund comes as an important time, as game venture capital investments dropped for Web3 gaming in the past few quarters amid a cryptocurrency downturn. With Bitcoin prices soaring to new levels, the times may be changing. Many of the game startups that survived a long winter so far may need help getting to the finish line, and there may be room for fresh startups as well.
The fund has commitments from notable investors including Alpha Wave Ventures, Merit Circle, and several prominent family offices, the IGF is positioned to fuel innovation and growth across the gaming landscape.
GamesBeat Summit Call for Speakers
We’re thrilled to open our call for speakers to our flagship event, GamesBeat Summit 2024 hosted in Los Angeles, where we will explore the theme of “Resilience and Adaption”.
The fund has already identified a robust pipeline of investment opportunities, with seven early-stage investments secured, including Pixelmon, Metalcore, Guild of Guardians, and My Pet Hooligan. These ventures represent a diverse array of gaming experiences, ranging from decentralized gaming IP to Hollywood-style animations with a twist of team deathmatch gameplay.
Zeb Rice, managing Partner at King River Capital, said in a statement, “Spending on video games exceeds the global revenue from movies, streaming TV and the music industry, combined, and it is ripe for a huge
technology shift.”
Rice added, “Just as mobile gaming went from virtually zero in 2008 to 79% of gamers playing mobile today, we believe a similar shift has only just begun to Web3 technology. The fund provides investors with an opportunity to gain unique access to the best Web3 gaming projects globally and is designed to benefit from this multi-hundred billion dollar shift in spending to this disruptive new technology.”
Robbie Ferguson, president of Immutable, echoed Rice’s sentiments.
“We are excited to be launching this pioneering fund in partnership with King River Capital and assisted by Polygon Labs,” Ferguson said. “Our combined expertise, global relationships, and industry reach ideally position the Fund to identify and invest in the best Web3 gaming and gaming infrastructure opportunities globally.”
