Jordan North Increases Capital Radio Breakfast Show Ratings

Jordan North has significantly boosted the ratings of Capital Radio's breakfast show, attracting over 400,000 new listeners within his first six months as host. Transitioning from BBC Radio 1, North's show reached 2.96 million listeners in Q3 2024, surpassing his predecessor Roman Kemp. Alongside co-hosts Chris Stark and Siân Welby, they achieved impressive listener growth, demonstrating North's effectiveness in engaging the audience and revitalizing the show's appeal.

DJ Jordan North has gained over 400,000 listeners for the Capital radio breakfast show in his first six months as host, according to new industry data.

After leaving BBC Radio 1 in February, he joined Capital in April. In the third quarter of 2024, his show drew 2.96 million listeners, up from 2.55 million during Roman Kemp's last three months.

North’s competitor on Radio 1, Greg James, also added about 400,000 listeners, bringing his total to 4.3 million, though his show’s time slot was extended by half an hour.

North co-hosts the show with Chris Stark and Siân Welby, adding 261,000 listeners initially and another 151,000 this quarter. Their numbers exclude Capital Scotland, which has a separate breakfast program.

Previously, North and James worked together on Radio 1’s drivetime show.

Other speech-based breakfast programs, such as BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast and BBC Radio 4's Today, also saw listener increases amid a busy news period, including a general election and an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

The Today program gained approximately 385,000 listeners, totaling 5.85 million. BBC Radio 5 Live’s breakfast show added 180,000, reaching 1.58 million, while BBC Radio 3's breakfast show increased by 115,000 to 866,000.

However, BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball lost 146,000 listeners to 6.28 million during her unexpected extended break. Kiss breakfast, hosted by Jordan Banjo and Perri Kiely, fell by about 218,000 to 721,000, while Magic's show lost roughly 170,000, leaving it with 890,000 listeners.

Vernon Kay, another Radio 2 presenter, saw his mid-morning show rise to 6.8 million, maintaining its status as the UK’s most popular radio program.
