The 10 Longest Airbus A380 Flights in the World

The 10 longest Airbus A380 flights connect major cities across the globe, covering vast distances. These iconic aircraft, known for their luxury and comfort, operate on routes that span continents, offering passengers an exceptional flying experience. From ultra-long-haul journeys to bustling international hubs, these flights showcase the A380's impressive range and ability to connect the world.

Ten airlines operate the Airbus A380, including All Nippon, Asiana, British Airways, Emirates, Etihad, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Qantas, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines. By next August, they plan to cover 90+ routes with an average distance of 3,606 nautical miles (6,678 km). Qantas operates the longest route, while Asiana has the shortest. A380s are typically flown on longer sectors, about a third longer than typical widebody flights.

The longest A380 flights are listed below. Qantas' Sydney-London Heathrow service via Singapore, which operates as a fifth freedom route, holds the top spot globally. Emirates' Dubai-Auckland route is the longest nonstop A380 flight. Neither of these rankings is surprising.

Etihad's new A380 route, as announced by the carrier's Chief Commercial Officer, is unlikely to enter the top 10 list. When considering all nonstop flights on all aircraft types, Emirates' Dubai-Auckland route ranks eighth globally, behind other long-haul flights such as Singapore-New York JFK, Singapore-Newark, and Doha-Auckland.

Between March 2013 and March 2018, Qantas operated a longer version of its Sydney-London Heathrow service, with a stop in Dubai instead of Singapore. This extended the one-way distance to 9,473 nautical miles (17,544 km), which was 2% longer than the Singapore route. This change stemmed from Qantas' partnership with Emirates and the airline’s financial challenges at the time. The two airlines coordinated their Australian routes, including up to 14 daily flights between Dubai and Australia.

After five years, Qantas resumed its Singapore stop for this route, despite its ongoing partnership with Emirates, which includes codesharing on many routes.

Other long A380 routes include:

  • Qantas' Melbourne to London Heathrow via Singapore (and briefly Dubai until 2018)
  • Qantas' one-time Melbourne-New York via Los Angeles flight in 2016
  • Singapore Airlines' Changi-New York JFK via Frankfurt (until May 2023)
  • Qantas' Sydney-Orlando via Los Angeles (one-off in 2020)
  • Singapore Airlines' Changi-San Francisco via Hong Kong (briefly in 2012/2013)
