Open Casting, Vogue’s model search, is open to femme-identifying individuals from anywhere in the world who are over 18 years old
Vogue initiates an open casting call to uncover the next generation of model talent. This inclusive approach aims to discover diverse and promising individuals who represent the evolving standards of beauty and fashion. The casting call provides aspiring models with a platform to showcase their unique qualities and aspirations, signaling Vogue's commitment to fostering inclusivity and representation within the fashion industry.
Vogue has unveiled the launch of Open Casting, a global model search aimed at identifying, encouraging, and supporting a fresh cohort of models that embody a contemporary ideal of beauty.
From April 24 to May 8, individuals who identify as femme and are 18 years old or older can access the Open Casting Portal on Vogue.com. There, they can submit photographs, a short video, and answer a questionnaire to showcase their personality. Applicants are welcome from any part of the world, regardless of agency representation, and there is no entry fee.
In June, finalists will be selected by a panel comprising Vogue editors, stylists, and casting directors, alongside industry figures such as Eva Chen, director of fashion partnerships at Instagram, model Paloma Elsesser, and casting directors Piergiorgio del Moro and Samuel Ellis Scheinman, co-founders of DM Casting.
Del Moro and Scheinman express their enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "Finding faces that embody modernity and the contemporary in an ever-evolving society is the goal of casting. We are proud to be part of Vogue's Open Casting, a groundbreaking model search, and are eager to discover the faces of the future."
The selected group will constitute the Vogue Open Casting Class of 2023 and will have the opportunity to participate in a photoshoot featured in a fall issue of global editions of Vogue, as well as receive ongoing mentorship and support. This initiative follows the success of Vogue China's Open Casting, where the winner, Fanfan, went on to walk the runways for renowned brands like Prada, Simone Rocha, and Burberry, among others.
Anna Wintour, Chief Content Officer at Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director at Vogue, commented in a press release, "Some of Vogue's most beloved models were discovered in the most unexpected ways: Kate Moss at JFK airport, Naomi Campbell window-shopping in Covent Garden. Open Casting is an initiative that will nurture the next generation of Vogue talent, with a particular focus on the necessity for more diverse and inclusive representation in fashion. We are excited to meet them."
