The ex-president of MGM Grand casino receives probation for failure to report bets made by a bookie.

Scott Sibella, former president of MGM Grand casino, receives one year of probation for not reporting illegal betting by a bookie at the casino. Sibella pleaded guilty to failing to report suspicious transactions, acknowledging his awareness of the bookmaker's illegal activities.

The former president of MGM Grand casino in Las Vegas receives one year of probation for neglecting to report millions in wagers by an illegal bookmaker. Scott Sibella, the ex-executive, also faces a $9,500 fine and a $100 special assessment, as ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Dolly Gee in Los Angeles.

Sibella's sentence aligns with prosecutors' and defense lawyers' recommendations. He pled guilty in January to failing to report suspicious transactions mandated by the Bank Secrecy Act. The case involves MGM Resorts, which owns MGM Grand and other Las Vegas properties. The Nevada Gaming Control Board filed a complaint against Sibella, seeking a fine and action against his gaming license.

Sibella admitted knowing that former minor league baseball player Wayne Nix ran an illegal bookmaking business, allowing him to gamble at MGM Grand and enjoy complimentary benefits. By 2020, the casino had accepted over $4 million in cash from Nix's illegal proceeds. Nix pleaded guilty to related charges in April 2022 but awaits sentencing.
