Winair has resumed its code-share agreement with KLM, enhancing travel convenience to Caribbean destinations. This partnership allows passengers to enjoy smoother connections and more flexible flight options, making it easier for travelers to explore the Caribbean. The collaboration strengthens both airlines’ networks, offering seamless travel experiences with coordinated schedules and shared services across multiple destinations in the region.
The national airline of Sint Maarten is strengthening its partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Winair has long served routes across the Dutch Caribbean and will once again collaborate with KLM on regional routes.
Reconnecting Flights
The renewed codeshare agreement between Winair and KLM will offer travelers from Amsterdam and KLM's international destinations easier connections via Winair's hub at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). This reinvigorated partnership simplifies travel for passengers transferring between KLM and Winair flights. Through this deal, KLM will place its flight code on Winair’s routes to destinations such as St. Barth, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts, Nevis, and Tortola.
Customers can now book flights on both airlines with a single ticket, allowing for smoother check-ins, boarding passes for both flights, and direct luggage transfers to their final destination. Winair’s CEO, Hans van de Velde, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“This renewed partnership with KLM, one of the world’s leading airlines, underscores their confidence in Winair’s safety, dependability, and service.” We are thrilled to offer our passengers enhanced convenience and connectivity.”
KLM currently operates an Airbus A330-200 on its nine-hour flight from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Sint Maarten.
Regional Revival
Sint Maarten’s International Airport is one of the busiest hubs in the Caribbean, playing a vital role in regional connectivity and tourism. It allows travelers from Europe and beyond to enjoy same-day connections to the Caribbean. The airport was severely damaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017, which destroyed its roof, flooded the facility, and damaged much of its equipment, forcing operations to be temporarily moved to tents. However, the airport recently completed major renovations, with a grand reopening led by Princess Beatrix, the former Queen of the Netherlands.
The improvements included new arrivals and departures halls and automated border control kiosks. Van de Velde praised the upgrades, noting: “I’m truly impressed. It’s now the most modern airport in the region, with numerous facilities, great shopping, and dining options.”
The airport is also home to Maho Beach, famously known as 'Airplane Beach,' where the proximity to the runway attracts aviation enthusiasts and photographers.
